Hub City Dragway Rules Overview


Hub City Appreciates your patronage and of course all tracks have to meet certain general racing rules and guidelines for us to run various classes safely. Our rules are here to benefit you before and after your racing experiance.

Section One is a standard guide to the basic rules and safety of all classes, check your car over so when you come to Hub City you know that you'll be teched in and meet the minimal requirements to race our track.

Tech and Safety-Check Guidelines

1/8 mile E.T. times listed in parentheses: 12.99 (8.25), 11.49 (7.35) and 9.99 (6.39)

Arm Restraint:
Required in any open-bodied car.

Battery:
Must be secured properly with OEM equipment if still mounted in stock location. NO coat-hangers, bungee cords, bailing wire, etc. allowed. If it is mounted in a different location, it MUST be secured properly with 3/8” minimum all-thread and include a master-disconnect outside on the back of the car clearly labeled. If the car is a hatchback, the battery must be mounted as noted above, but inside an enclosed sealed battery box, or the car must have a firewall fashioned between the driver and the battery.

Carburetor:
Must have an effective throttle-return spring (TWO are recommended). Also, a breather, flash shield, or spark arrestor is recommended.

Catch Can:
All water-cooled cars must have an approved radiator overflow catch-can that is 16 oz. minimum and secured properly. Drive Shaft Loop All cars running SLICK/STREET SLICKS must have a safety loop encircling the drive shaft that is mounted not more than 6” behind the front U-joint.

Driver Apparel:
Long pants, full-toed shoes, and shirts required. No shorts, tank-tops, bare torsos, etc allowed. Appropriate clothing is mandatory.

Fire Gloves:
SFI approved, required on all open-bodied cars, and on full-bodied cars running 9.99 (6.39) or quicker, and/or 135 MPH or faster.

Fire Jacket:
SFI approved, required on cars running 11.49 (7.35) or quicker. See Roll Cage, Harness.

Fire Pants:
SFI approved, required on all open-bodied cars, and on full-bodied cars running 9.99 (6.39) or quicker, and/or 135 MPH or faster.

Fire Shoes:
SFI approved, required on all open-bodied cars which are super/turbocharged, nitrous equipped, or alcohol powered. Recommended for any open-bodied car

Fuel Cell:
All fuel cells must be mounted properly and vented out the back or the bottom of the car. Plastic cells must be grounded properly with a ground strap. The cell must be isolated from the driver compartment with a sealed firewall to prevent fuel from leaking in.

Fuel Filter:
NO GLASS filters allowed. Must be of metal or plastic construction.

Fuel Line:
There can be no more than a TOTAL of 12” of rubber fuel line in a car. Either ensure that hard line is in place, or use approved braided steel line.

Harness:
5-point Seat belts are required. Stock belts are fine until a car reaches 11.49 (7.35) or quicker or 12.99 (8.25) for convertibles, and/or 135 MPH or faster, or if it is equipped with a roll bar/cage, regardless of E.T. At this point, an SFI approved 3” wide, 5-point harness is required. The shoulder straps should be secured behind the driver below the plane of his/her shoulders.

Helmet:
SNELL or SPI approved helmets are required. Full-faced helmets with shield are required on any open bodied cars & all cars running 9.99 (6.39) or quicker . Shield must be down upon leaving the starting line. Approved crash helmets must be strapped and worn properly.

Hood:
All full-bodied cars are required to have a hood.

Lug Nuts:
Each wheel shall have the OEM number of lug nuts fastened securely. If using open-end lug nuts, the wheel stud shall protrude into the hex portion of the nut a distance that is at least equal to the diameter of the stud. See Wheel Stud. See Wheel Stud.

Neck Collar:
Required in any open-bodied car. and ALL full-bodied cars running 9.99 (6.39) or quicker, and/or 135 MPH or faster.

Neutral Safety Switch:
A functioning neutral safety switch is required on ALL vehicles. See Shifter.

Nitrous System:
System DOT approved NOS bottles must be secured properly with a minimum of 2 straps. If the bottle is in the driver compartment, it must be vented properly out of the car. Solenoids and nozzles must be mounted properly in the engine compartment.

Roll Cage/Bar:
All cars running 11.49 (7.35) or quicker or 12.99 (8.25) for convertibles and/or 135 MPH or faster must have at least a 6-point roll cage, a 5-point harness, and a fire jacket. The cage must also be padded everywhere that any part of the driver’s body (hands, feet, head, etc.) may come in contact with the cage while properly harnessed in the driver’s seat.

Shifter:
Stock shifters are fine. Any after market automatic shifter must be equipped with a spring-loaded, positive reverse lockout. A neutral safety switch is mandatory.

Tail-light:
For night-time racing, all cars shall have at least one working tail light that is visible from the tower and the starting line upon leaving the starting line and exiting the track.

Tires:
All tires must be in good condition (not dry rotted, etc.) and CANNOT be spacesaver doughnut-type spares.

Lug Nuts, Wheel Stud:
Each wheel shall have the OEM number of wheel studs, with lug nuts fastened securely. If using open-end lug nuts, the wheel stud shall protrude into the hex portion of the lug nut a distance that is at least equal to the diameter of the stud.

Window Net:
Required on any car running 9.99 (6.39) or quicker and/or 135 MPH or faster. Recommended on any car that has a roll cage.

Windshield:
Required on all full-bodied cars. Lexan is allowed.

INDEX & TRUE STREET RULES


7.00/6.00/5.30/4.70 INDEX:
ALL VEHICLES MUST MEET I.H.R.A SAFETY STANDARDS:

Class Description: – No center steer vehicle. Left hand steer only.

Interior: – All cars are required to have a stock appearing dash (sheetmetal is approved). The rear seat is optional.

Chassis: – All entries required to have a chassis capable of certifying to a minimum of 8.50 or slower.

Engine: – Any engine combination, power adders and fuel are allowed except nitro-methane.

Electrical: – Throttle stop must be fully disconnected from pneumatic or electrical source and throttle stop blades must be fixed. Optical sensors are prohibited.

Deep Staging: – Deep staging is allowed at driver’s risk.

Sponsorship Decals & Lettering: – Decals and lettering is restricted to windows and quarter panels. All cars are required to have an identifying number posted on front side and rear window.

Disqualification:
– Disqualification will occur in the event of : Running under the 6.00 Index, crossing the centerline or use of prohibited equipment (optical sensors, throttle stops, etc.).

Supercharger or Turbocharger combination must be factory equipped

STREET EQUIPMENT:
BODY:
The car must retain its original appearance and profiles.

INTERIOR:
Vehicles must retain a "street appearing" interior. Factory door panels, carpet and dashboard are required. Two front seats required (bench seat OK). NO SEAT DELETES.

WINDOWS:
Must be of safety glass. No Lexan permitted. The only exception will be the rear window of an El-Camino or other truck for roll bar access. All front door windows must be fully operational.

STREET LEGAL REQUIREMENTS:
All cars are required to have working headlights and tail lights (headlights doors must be fixed open or work manually or automatically on cars so equipped). Brake lights and turn signals are required.

TIRES:
D.O.T approved tires. Limited to 28 inch tall.

All cars must retain factory stock-type suspension. Bolt on aftermarket suspension components allowed, including coil-over conversions

Suspensions can be either stock-style or Ladderbars, coil-over shocks allowed with any legal suspension combination.

ENGINE:
No cubic inch limits.

HEADS:
Aftermarket cylinder heads, aluminum or cast iron are allowed, no aftermarket spayed or canted valve, Big Chief, or any "Pro Stock" style heads are permitted unless the motor was equipped as such from the factory. (I.E. Big Blocks and Cleveland Fords)

NITROUS:
Any Nitrous combination is allowed.

SUPERCHARGER / TURBOCHARGER:
Any Supercharger or Turbocharger combination is permitted.

TRANSMISSION:
Any automatic transmission with torque converter allowed. OEM or aftermarket Manual transmissions permitted.

STREET EQUIPMENT

General And Heads Up Rules


General Rules:
ALL VEHICLES MUST MEET I.H.R.A SAFETY STANDARDS.:
Deep staging allowed. Cars must cross scales after every qualifying and elimination pass. Tow-backs are allowed. Arm bands reguired for crewmembers to be on starting line. Crewmembers must leave the starting line and burnout area after each pass.

PLEASE NOTE Weight Rules do Not Apply in any Category for Mardi Gras:

Weights:
Four cylinder cars must be 2200 lbs
Small Block Nitrous, Big Block Conventional Heads Nitrous V6 any power and number power adders: 2700 lbs. Big Block & Turbo, Supercharger: 3000 lbs. .Nostalgia Cars - deduct 50 lbs.

ALL OUTLAW 10.5 vehicles must cross scales after every qualifying and elimination pass

Body Length:
Plus or minus 2” from factory dimension

TRUE 10.5 / DRAG RADIAL


Any slick up to a 30 x 10.5" sidewall designation allowed. "W" tires are not allowed. DOT tires up to a 12.50" sidewall designation allowed. Hoosier tire, part number 18192D05 will not be allowed. Wheel width may not exceed 13 inches.

Transmission:
Any OEM type automatic or manual transmissions allowed. Aftermarket heavy-duty cases allowed. Lenco, Jeffco or Liberty clutchless type transmissions not allowed. Air shifters and trans-brakes are allowed.

Front Chassis/Suspension:
Stock front frame rails and suspension required. Aftermarket control arms and bushings allowed as long as they bolt in stock locations. Rack and Pinion steering allowed. Aftermarket coil over shocks allowed and aftermarket direct replacement struts are allowed, but must bolt in stock location with the exception of aftermarket K-member. In the case of K-member cars, the upper control arm must bolt in stock location, but the K-member and lower control arms must still be removable. After market bolt in sub-frames not allowed. Cross member may be notched for oil pan clearance.

Rear Chassis/Suspension:
Any type rear suspension allowed. Stock firewall must be retained and in stock location. Notching for clearance of bell housing, distributor, supercharger or intercooler allowed.

ALL WEIGHTS ARE WITH CAR AND DRIVER:
SMALL BLOCK N20 2,500 lbs.:
BIG BLOCK N20 2,900 lbs.:
SB TURBO 3,100 lbs.:

General rules:

Deep staging allowed. All vehicles must cross over scales after every qualifying and elemination rounds.
All qualifying and elemination will be 400 pro tree and placed on a pro ladder.
Crew members must exit the starting line after vehicle makes pass.
Rules may be revised / changed as need arises. All tech decisions are final:

Mean Street / 275 Drag Radial


FORMAT:
This is an 1/8 mile heads-up class run on a .400 pro tree with a pro ladder. Mean Streetis a qualified quick 16 field. Courtesy staging and autostart is in effect. There will also be another class called

BODY:
The car must retain its original appearance, profiles, and dimensions. Factory roof and quarter panels must be used. Aftermarket fiberglass replacement panels are limited to hood, front fenders, doors, decklids, and bumpers only. All front ends must be of factory dimensions and cannot be stretched. Aftermarket wings and spoilers are permitted. Complete stock appearing front and rear bumpers are required. A hood must cover the entire induction system. Forward facing hood scoops/ turbo or supercharger inlets are permitted.

INTERIOR:
Factory appearing dashboard, door panels, and driver seat is required. Full Carpet is required on floorboards. Factory floor pan on driver and passenger side required. Bare inside frame of car cannot be exposed. Aftermarket steering column is permitted.

WINDSHIELD/WINDOWS:
OEM glass or lexan windows are permitted.

CHASSIS:
Complete stock chassis and frame rails must be retained. Back-halved cars are not permitted. Front core support may be modified or removed. Aftermarket bolt-on replacement front K-members/sub frames are allowed (if front shocks bolt to K-member then they must be in factory location). Mini tubs are allowed. Rear frame rails may be notched for clearance. Factory wheelbase must be maintained.

ENGINE:
Maximum displacement for all engines is 632ci. Maximum displacement for Nitrous engines is 632 ci. Small blocks are allowed any deck height. GM Big Blocks are limited to a 10.2 deck height. Ford Big Blocks are limited to a 10.3 deck height. Mopar Big Blocks are limited to a 10.7 deck height.

TURBOCHARGERS:
Single turbocharger limited to 88 mm maximum. (GT55-88, Pro-Mod 88, ET-R88 or = mid/large frame turbo). Turbocharger size will be verified by measuring the housing bore at the leading edge of the impeller wheel and must maintain the contour of the compressor housing. The maximum diameter of the housing bore at the leading edge of the wheel may not exceed 2 mm more than the maximum allowable turbocharger size permitted. Inserts or reducers to achieve inlet or outlet dimensions prohibited. Any type of air to air or water to air intercooler permitted. Turbochargers w/nitrous oxide are prohibited except on 2-rotor, 4 cylinder, and inline 6 cylinder engines.

SUPERCHARGERS:
Cog or gear driven superchargers are permitted, must meet all factory inlet, outlet, and internal housing dimensions. Inserts or reducers to achieve inlet or outlet dimensions prohibited. Any type intercooler is permitted. Cannot combine with nitrous oxide. Roots superchargers are limited to a 10-71. Centrifugal superchargers are permitted. Screw superchargers are not permitted. NITROUS OXIDE:
Conventional Headed Big Block Limited to 1 Carb and 1 Nitrous Kit(No Sheetmetal Intakes). Small Blocks Permitted to run any type multi-stage nitrous systems, Sheetmetal Intakes and multiple carbs.

TRANSMISSION:
Any factory style automatic transmission allowed. Bruno-Lenco transmissions are prohibited. Clutchless manual transmission and clutch assisted manual transmissions are permitted on naturally aspirated combinations only. Electric shifters or air shifters are permitted.

INDUCTION:
Small Block combinations may run any type induction. Big Block combinations are limited to a dedicated single carburetor with cast intake.

OILING SYSTEM:
Dry sumps are permitted on all cars.

EXHAUST:
Mufflers or inserts are required on all cars except for turbo cars. Exhaust may exit underneath car or out the front fenders but must not affect timing or staging beams.

FUEL:
Gasoline only is permitted. Alcohol or E-85 or other derivatives is prohibited.

STREET EQUIPMENT:
Functional headlights, taillights and brake lights required. All headlights, brake lights, marker lights, etc must be on car and not removed for any reason. All vehicles may be towed back from their passes.

SUSPENSION:
Stock style suspension cars only (See weights below for penalty for aftermarket suspension). Four links are prohibited on all cars. Aftermarket direct replacement components such as: front control arms, rear control arms, front coil over shocks, and rear coil over shocks are permitted. Aftermarket rack and pinion steering allowed. Rear leaf springs, springs, shocks, and coil-overs may be moved to accommodate tire clearance, and do not need to be mounted in stock location. Bolt-on or welded sub-frame connectors, rear sway bars, are permitted on all cars. Wheelie bars are prohibited on all cars. Torque arms are only permitted on cars that were originally equipped from factory with it.

TIRES:
All cars with power adder must compete on a Drag Radial type tire with the following sidewall designation 275/60/15. Naturally aspirated cars are permitted to run a 28.0” x 10.5” slick, no “W” tires permitted.

Minimum base Weights:
All minimum weights include the driver.:

Naturally Aspirated (small block) 2500 lbs
Naturally Aspirated (big block with standard deck height and conventional head) 2800 lbs
Naturally Aspirated (big block with tall deck height and conventional head) 2850 lbs
Small block nitrous -2 kit- 3,000 lbs
Small block pro charger F1 only -3250 lbs
Small block Turbo 88mm only-3250 lbs
Big Block- 1 kit-any cu in up to 632- conv heads only no big chief,big duke,olds or pontiac, 3250 lbs
* Aftermarket rear suspension (Ladder bar): add 50 lbs.
* V-6 Turbocharged/Supercharged/Nitrous combos will deduct 200 lbs from base weight

Hattiesburg, Mississippi is centrally located less than 90 minutes from New Orleans and Mobile, the Gulf Coast and Jackson, Mississippi, and it is bordered to the north by Tennessee, to the east by Alabama, to the south by the Gulf of Mexico, and to the west by Arkansas, Louisiana, and the Mississippi River.
